Tooth extractions and wisdom teeth removal are available from our downtown Windsor dentists if a tooth cannot be saved or is causing issues for your oral health.
About Tooth Extractions
A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from the socket in the jaw bone. While it is always preferable to save a natural tooth, there are a number of cases where a tooth extraction may be needed.
Reasons for an Extraction
There are many reasons why we may recommend extracting a tooth. We may suggest an extraction because your tooth is poorly positioned in your mouth, badly decayed, abscessed, you have developed serious gum disease, or in preparation for orthodontic treatment.
Wisdom Teeth Removal
We may also recommend the extraction in the case of problematic wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth are a third set of molars that grow in for some patients between age 17 and 25. These teeth can crowd the mouth and create issues for your oral health and may require removal.
The Extraction Procedure
We will begin by placing a local anaesthetic to the area surrounding your tooth, so that you will not feel pain during the procedure.
If it becomes uncomfortable for you at any point, our team will be listening and ready to help make you comfortable before continuing.
During your appointment, we will explain how to care for your mouth after the extraction. By following some simple steps, you can prevent any problems following the extraction.
After your procedure, you should eat only soft foods for a couple of days. As you heal, you can add solid foods back into your diet.
